GENDER OF NOUNS IN SPANISH V Feminine ending "esa", "isa", "ina"

Among the nouns that can change gender, there are some feminine ones that end in "esa", "isa" or "ina". Although there are some exceptions, they are usually nouns whose masculine form ends in a vowel other than "o", often, but not exclusively, an "e".

Here are a few examples:

Examples of nouns whose feminine form ends in esa: "Tigre" (tiger) y tigresa (tigress), vampiro (vampire) y vampiresa (vampiress), alcalde (mayor) y alcaldesa (mayoress).

"El tigre de Tasmania, la misteriosa especie que sigue 'apareciendo' después de su extinción" (The Tasmanian tiger, the mysterious species that continues to "appear" after its extinction).

"Después de diez años de cautiverio, la tigresa del ex zoo de La Plata recupera la libertad: así será su nueva vida" (After ten years in captivity, the tigress from the former La Plata zoo is free: this will be her new life).

Examples of nouns whose feminine form ends in isa: Poeta (poet)  y poetisa (poetess), sacerdote (priest) y sacerdotisa, (priestess), profeta (prophet) y profetisa (prophetess).

"El poeta Isaac Rosenberg y la tradición judía como consuelo a la tragedia" (The poet Isaac Rosenberg and the Jewish tradition as consolation for the tragedy).

"Alfonsina Storni, la poetisa que admiraban su pares, eligió morir en el mar y se convirtió en himno" (Alfonsina Storni, the poetess admired by her peers, chose to die at sea and became a hymn).

Examples of nouns whose feminine form ends in ina: Héroe (hero) y heroína (heroine), gallo (rooster) y gallina (hen), zar (tsar) y zarina (tsarina), rey (king) y reina (queen)

It should be noted that in the case of feminine nouns ending in "esa" and "isa", they are usually the equivalent in Spanish of feminine nouns ending in "ess" in English.
